This is our home.  It is also our model.  The links below follow the construction of  this home week by week,
month by month, from start to finish.  If you are seriously researching the possibility of building your own
log home we encourage you to follow along and see exactly what is involved in a project such as this.

This home is a modified Kuhns Bros. "Clearfield A", which includes a 4 car garage and work shop.  It has
approximately 2700 sq. ft. of living area,  1000 sq. ft. of covered porches and 2200 sq. ft. of garage/shop area.
Our goal here is to provide our customers with an in depth look at what it takes to build your own log home.
As you can see this is no small project and all the trials and tribulations of being your own contractor will be
laid out for everyone's information.

Acting as your own contractor is not for the timid. It takes a bit of work, coordination and time. This is
especially true if you are also doing 90% or more of the work yourself.  However, the rewards are almost
always worth the effort. Our goal was finish this project with a mortgage that was approximately one half or
less of the appraised value of this home,  and we succeeded.  Although this may sound like a pipe dream to
most people, it can be done providing you are willing do most of the work yourself.  Labor is very expensive,
sometimes more than the materials, so when it comes to building any new home there is a lot to be said for
the value of "Sweat Equity".
