This week began with more Tongue and Groove installation.  While the "boss" cut our neighbor George nailed
the T&G in place.  I can't emphasize enough how easy the T&G installation is.  Compared to sheet rock it's a
piece of cake.
While the two of them were busy with the T&G I sheeted the top half of the fireplace chase.  We knew we would
be taking the second level of scaffolding down to do the insulation in the front dormer so rather than set it back
up again later I sheeted what couldn't be reached without the second level in place.
A little later in the day our fireplace was hooked up and test run.  This is a temporary hook up as you can tell by
the extension cord.  This unit has a box mounted on the wall that controls everything.  We could have had a
remote but they are too easy to lose.  A button on the wall turns it on, off, sets the flame height, and sets the
temperature at which it automatically comes on.
Also this week our kitchen counter tops were installed.  This is a Corian equivalent called Silestone.
We also completed all the waste lines on the first floor.  This line drains the shower upstairs and the sink in the
half bath down stairs.
This one drains the toilet in the second floor bathroom.  The two inch pipe at the top is the vent line.  This line
will also drain the half bath toilet on the first floor.
As you can see this line had to move slightly to miss a double floor joist below.  We will build a small
extension to the wall on the bathroom side to accommodate this and it will provide a small shelf behind the
toilet for knick knacks
Here is the drain in the laundry room.  Some like to use an internal mount for the drain but we prefer the drain
to be located outside the wall. Our water lines will also be outside the wall since they will be hooked into an
automatic shut off unit that will shut off water pressure to the washing machine when it's not in use.
The master bathroom shower unit was installed on Saturday.  This is a one piece fiberglass unit designed to
be mounted directly to the studs.  Mortar was used under the floor to provide a solid feel.  Although the
manufacturer says mortar isn't required we used it anyway.
Perhaps the best thing that happened this week was the installation of our heater.  It's really nice to have
heat for a change.  This unit is only hooked up temporarily because we are waiting for the humidifier to
arrive and be installed.  This particular unit is the quietest heater I've ever heard.
Now that the heater is installed and working we needed to complete the installation of all the insulation.  This
is the master bathroom insulation in place just prior to the installation of the T&G ceiling.  This particular
insulation has an "R" value of 38.
Here is the bathroom ceiling after being sheeted with T&G.  What a difference a little insulation makes!
One of the final tasks this week was to finish the insulation on the dormer in the great room.  This required
us to disassemble the top level of our scaffolding as I mentioned earlier.  Now that this is complete the entire
house is completely insulated.
That's it for another week.  Next week we'll be working on the exterior
soffet and we'll also start siding the garage and shop.  The "boss" will
continue with the T&G installation and I will continue with the plumbing
waste lines. We also hope to start hooking up some of the electric circuits
so we can eliminate all our extension cords.
