In order to complete the electrical rough in we had to install the collar ties in the shop area. We have 8' florescent fixtures that will hang from these and the electrical lines for these lights run along them. These collar ties also add structural strength to the shop roof which will be needed in case of heavy snow loads.

This will be the last week our son will be able to work with us because he is moving his family about 3 hours away. This was also the first time he had to work on the top section of a double high set of scaffolding. He's not big on working at heights but it took the two of us, one on each side of the shop to get these collar ties in. They span the vaulted section at about the 18' level so we had to work pretty high on the scaffolding to get them in.

While we were busy in the shop our cabinet installation expert completed the kitchen and master bathroom cabinets.

Here is a shot of the kitchen island cabinets. Because they're Hickory the color varies quiet a bit we have decided to order a few extra drawer fronts so we can switch them around to obtain a little better match. On Tuesday our installers will be back to measure for the solid surface counter tops. When the finished flooring is in place our installer will complete the tow kick and crown moldings.

On Monday the "Boss" and our neighbor George continued with the installation of the tongue and groove. At this time we are only doing one side of the walls until the electrical installation is inspected.

George is a perfectionist. Here he's installing a section of tongue and groove that will only be seen when someone needs to get to the crawl space. Has to be perfect or George isn't happy. George, thanks for all your help.

Since this was the last week we would have our son's help we used his muscle to help us get all the 3/4" OSB upstairs so we could finish the floor above the garage. This is a storage area but if we need to use it for a hobby room or game room sometime in the future it will be easy to insulate and finish.

On Saturday we started the exterior log siding. We hired one of the framers to help with this particular side since we had to cut the siding around all the beams. It really helped to have a professional do all the measuring for that task. I don't know why but it seems every time we do something outside we end up doing it on a day when we have 30-40 mph winds. The winds made this job a little tough. Here I am installing the trim around the guest bedroom window.

One of the things we really like about Kuhns Brothers Log Homes is the way their siding is constructed. Here we are installing the stockade sections at the corners. The stockade corners require you to work on both sides of the corner while you are installing them but the finished product is well worth the extra effort.

You can now see that once the stockade corners are installed and the siding is on you really won't be able to tell which sections of the house are real log and which are sided.

It took all day to complete this side of the house. No wonder either. You try standing this high on a ladder perched on a 4/12 pitch roof in 40 mph winds. This was not fun and that's why our pro is doing it, but at least now it's done.
||||||
That's it for another week. We will be helping our son move on Monday so we will get a late start next week. Tuesday we will work on repositioning the windows in the two front dormers and we'll get them sided. We decided that these windows were mounted about a foot low so we're going to move them while we have the chance. We'll also get started with the plumbing rough in and since our fireplace was delivered on Friday we'll get started building the chase for the fireplace flue. It's going to be a busy week to say the least. We also want to take this opportunity to thank our son Rob for taking a year off to help us build this house. Rob, you have our sincere thanks for a job well done.
